How to Integrate Authorize.net Gateway with Shopify

Generate your API keys

You need your Authorize.net credentials before you start. This short walkthrough shows where to find them.

How to Get your Authorize.net API Keys
Prerequisites

Before you begin

Have these ready
  • Make sure you’re logged in to Shopify Admin with full permissions or store owner access.
  • Decide whether Shopify should capture payments automatically (recommended) or authorize only (captured later after shipping).
  • If you want to test first, make sure you have your sandbox credentials.

Test your connection

A · Optional — test mode

If you were given sandbox/test credentials:

  1. 1

In the Authorize.net section, toggle Test mode ON.

  2. 2

Paste in your sandbox API Login ID and sandbox Transaction Key.

  3. 3

    Save changes.

  4. 4

Place a small test order using a test credit card (we’ll provide test numbers).

  5. 5

Confirm the order shows as Paid (or Authorized) in Shopify → Orders.

  6. 6

When tests succeed, switch Test mode OFF, replace with live credentials, and save again.

B · Live test

  1. 1

With live credentials saved, make a small real purchase (e.g. $1.00) on your storefront.

  2. 2

Confirm the order appears in Shopify → Orders as Paid (or Authorized).

  3. 3

Log in to Authorize.net → Reports → Transaction Search and confirm the transaction is listed.

  4. 4

If needed, void or refund the test payment inside Shopify.
